About Us

Welcome to the Flatbrook River and Northern New Jersey . The Flatbrook River flows through the Flatbrook Wildlife Management Area and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The Flatbrook provides premier trout fishing in New Jersey, as well as the chance to spend some time in one of the most scenic areas in the Northeast.

I specialize in fly fishing on the Flatbrook . My objective for a day on the stream is for you to have an enjoyable and relaxing day fly fishing while I show you the local waters and techniques that are catching trout during that time of the year. I have been fishing for 40 years , 25 of those on the Flatbrook.

The New Jersey trout stocking season starts at the beginning of April and fish stocking stops at the end of May . During April the streams can be running high as well as the number of people on the Flatbrook.  At the right spots and with the right techniques the fishing can be fun and productive.

By mid May the Flatbrook water levels drop, the crowds begin to disappear and great dry fly fishing begins . May provides some great Sulfur hatches followed by Blue Winged Olives through the summer months.

During the summer months of June, July and August the Flatbrook becomes a low and clear running stream, but don’t let those conditions or 90 degree summer heat keep you from fly fishing . I can show you ways to dry fly fish and catch trout midday during what others consider the “summer doldrums” . All summer long there can be evening hatches and the Flatbrook can provide some spectacular fishing.

Come the Fall , fishing switches back to streamers and bead-heads but NJ again stocks fish ... in some impressive size!

The Delaware River is only minutes away and can provide opportunities for side trips for Shad , Small Mouth Bass and Channel Catfish on the fly.
